The Front Door
A poem by Robbie Titchener

Another one walked out the door today.
Another one lonely and confused,
given up on trying to be heard
letting go of the need to be loved.
Looked around
and saw no-one in common
Looked around
and thought that no-one cared.
Came searching for love, acceptance
this stranger in familiar clothing
walked back out the front door.

Another one walked out the door today.
Another one bitter and angry,
tired of the hypocrisy
frustrated at the censorship.
Stood his ground
and rocked the boat.
Stood the ground
and faced the storm.
Wanted to make a difference
but shot from behind, shot in the foot
walked back out the front door.

Another one walked out the door today.
Another one hurt and abused,
condemned by the clergy
raped by the righteous.
Trusted
and taught how to hate
Trusted
and learnt to lie to survive.
Once vulnerable and innocent
this plaything torn in two
walked back out the front door.

Another one walked out the door today.
Another one restricted and impatient,
wants to try the real world
taste and see for himself.
Searching for meaning
and finding fun along the way.
Giving up old ways
this rebel to the cause
walked back out the front door.
